About us
Bolognanovecento.it shop offers original goods and collections created or selected by Unico in Serie a Bologna based design studio specialized in creating homeware collections, gifts and quality souvenirs.
But that's not all. Bolognanovecento.it was also created to share our passion for beautiful things, for vintage, and for stories, especially those of Bologna.
Why Bologna?
First of all, because it's our city, where we've lived and worked for a considerable number of years, but also and above all because over time we've discovered that Bologna isn't just a city, but a way of life, combining comfort and elegance, tradition and modernity, culture and cheerfulness, enthusiasm and quiet living.
A lifestyle, or, if you prefer, an art of living that hasn't yet been lost here, and which, through a few objects, we'd like to put in a box and send to all of you. Who knows... maybe all over the world.
Please, come back often as you'll always find new ideas for an original, authentic, and carefully curated gift.
Why the 20th century?
The 20th century was the richest century in social, economic, and cultural events and changes in Western history. We all bear traces of all these changes in the histories of our families. With the goods we design, we want to recapture a bit of this history. It may certainly seem nostalgic, but how much of that charm have we left behind, perhaps too quickly?
What does the BolognaNovecento.it logo represent?
The icon of our logo is the stylized image of the statue found in the Fountain of the Nymph, at the base of the Pincio steps in the Montagnola district of Bologna. It's certainly not among Bologna's most famous monuments, and that was exactly what we were looking for.
We especially wanted to feel represented by a female figure, given that we're a team of women. Also the strength of this nymph trying to free herself from the octopus and the waves of the sea represents us all. If you're willing to do some research, you'll find many stories about this statue, including the rumor that the Nymph was created to provide a companion for the Neptune in Piazza Maggiore, so much so that she's nicknamed "the Giant's Wife."
With its Art Nouveau style... it was love at first sight!
